pretty soon i leave for St. Thomas! i am as excited as can be! there are so many things i want to do while i am down there and there are so many things that my family has planned! if you have ever been there and would like to tell me about your trip please feel free to do so. [i do not own the rights to this image, i got it from google images then edited it] these are the vacation must-haves that i have narrowed my broad selection down to. the shoes are from urban outfitters and the ray-bans are from zappos. this is the most adorable bikini i have ever seen! i am seriously at a shortage of swim suits and this one is perfect, it is from urban outfitters.
while cleaning my room this morning, i happened upon some fun film photographs and snapshots i clicked away last summer. enjoy!
i felt that, in celebration of the new summer, my bedroom wall deserved a face lift. my wall had been covered in Diana F+ posters from last year when i got the whole kit for my birthday. i was so excited that i immediately trashed my wall. this morning, i decided it was time to clean up, sparkle, and shine my bright pink wall. [i have outgrown the pink but there's nothing i can do about that right now] this was the picture i took before i began ripping everything off of my wall. so many old posters and so many collected push pins! and voila! my fresh masterpiece! isn't she pretty? who needs to waste precious time in the spring while cleaning when you can just clean with your bundles of extra time in the summer?! happy cleaning, everyone!
who doesn't love a summer photo shoot? i must say, i think i have summer fever! everything i do, i want to do outside. my dear sister let me photograph her and it made my day. i love taking pictures and i find myself always either taking pictures of small, sweet things, or photographing something stunning. i also have a weakness for purses big enough to hold my Canon SLR. is it not just great when you have room to bring your camera with you?! i always fund myself lugging mine around my neck if i do not have a purse big enough for it. either way, i do bring it just about everywhere i go [unless i am going to a funeral or something]. inspiration seems to never be a problem for me and i always find myself loving whatever i do. i hope you love your life as much as i love mine! have a happy day!
i made this cute purse out of a garland of Tibetan prayer flags that i bought at Disney's animal kingdom. although you may not have these exact flags, the same principles will apply to similar fabrics. materials you will need: two tibetan prayer flag garlands [or any kind of ethnic fabric], scissors, an array of embroidery threads, embroidery needle, another fabric of choice first, i had to cut the flags from the garland. because mine were already the same size, i only had to align them inside-out before i began to stitch around the outside. continue stitching on three sides. when you are done, flip back around to the outside. i decided to stitch a pocket on the outside of mine. cut three long, same-sized strips of fabric from your fabric of choice. stitch all three fabrics together at the edge. begin to braid all three fabrics together. when you are finished braiding, stitch the end closed to avoid unravelling. sew each side of the braid to its respective side on the inside of the bag where the two fabrics meet. you have just created a beautiful summer purse!
summer has bee wonderful so far. i have had time to do all the things i planned to do and more! i so wish this could last forever. this past week has acted as a creative catharsis for me. i have just exploded with diy's and i cannot wait to upload them all! in the mix of all this i have been painting and decoupaging. these are the fronts and backs of my new summer sketch books that i am so excited about! i decoupaged them while watching roman holiday and it made me very happy. i hope you are having just as wonderful of a summer as i am having! please enjoy my diy's and write me about any you would like to see!
This diy was so much fun and also a great addition to any bland wall. it is more of a decoration than a storage piece, but it sure it beautiful! materials you will need: frame [i painted mine white before i began], a hot glue gun, a paintbrush, a hook, a clip, an array of colored acrylic paints first, add a glob of all three paints into one pile and dab your paintbrush to mix them up [avoid mixing them too much together if you want a look with several varied shades]. dab your paint brush all around the frame until you are happy with the way it looks. do not forget about the outside and inside edges! let it dry completely. decide where you want your jewelry hook to be placed. screw in your hook until it feels firm. put a bit of hot glue on the front of you frame where you want your clip to be placed. press down on the clip until it feels solid. leave the lips of the clip below the frame edge. Add a sentimental piece of jewelry to go along with a cut photograph! you're done!
on tuesday, i got an instagram! my friends made me because [as you know] i am an aspiring photographer and they all said they were counting down the days until i would get an instagram so they could all check out my everyday pictures with an artistic [not artsy] twist. though i do not have an iphone, i relentlessly gave in and have been uploading via my canon 600d and ipad. i love instagram now! i am officially addicted. check out some of my favorites or check me out on instagram at sophiahoeke.
today, i attended my sister's and boyfriend's high school graduation. i dresses in aqua blue from my ears to my toes because i knew i was going to be sad. despite my moody outfit, i actually enjoyed the ceremony and seeing everyone in caps & gowns. something to tell: my dear mother is a photographer by profession but she only snapped these shots quickly before we ran out the door [we were already late]. outfit:
